Author or co-author of, inter alia, Small Firms in Singapore (Oxford University Press, 1988), Workers Perceptions of Wages in Singapore (Times Academic Press, 1990), The Singapore Worker: A Profile (Oxford University Press, 1991), Trade Unionism in Singapore (McGraw Hill, 1991), Employment-driven Industrial Relations Regimes: The Singapore Experience (Avebury, 1995), and Values and Lifestyles of Young Singaporeans (Prentice Hall, 1997). Journal publications include Singapore Economic Review, Advances in Pacific Basin Business, Economics, and Finance, (USA), and China Economic Review (USA). Current research interests include trade unions, collective agreements and currency crises. Founding Director of the Asian Commerce and Economics Studies Centre, NTU. Centre's main activities include Executive Development Programmes, Master of Science in Managerial Economics.The main research focus is the Chinese economy, Asian IR/HR issues, Transport Economics, Islamic Banking and Macroeconomic management. Served as consultant to many agencies including International Labour Organisation, Asian Development Bank, World Bank, United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, Herbert Quandt Stiftung, National Computer Board (Singapore), Ministry of Trade and Industry (Singapore), Chinese Development Assistance Council (Singapore), and resource person to Government Parliamentary Committee on Labour (Singapore) for 1986-90 and 1997. Formerly Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, NUS; Honorary Secretary of the Economic Society of Singapore, 1986-88; Vice President of Economic Society of Singapore, 1997; Council Member of East Asian Economic Association. Awards received include an Academy World Star by International Academy of the Authorized Education based in Russia and the USA, a 1996 National Book Award, Honorary Professor of Moscow External University of the Humanities, Honorary Professorship from Liaoning Administrative College and Visiting Professorship from North East University of Finance and Economics. Listed in Who's Who in the World by MARQUIS.
