Andrew Corey Yerkes

Andrew Yerkes is an Assistant Professor of American literature in the Division of English. He earned his Ph.D. from Rice University in Houston, Texas, in 2003. He has taught at Rice University, the University of Miami (Coral Gables, Florida), and the University of Saint Thomas (Houston). He is the author of "Twentieth-Century Americanism": Identity and Ideology in Depression-Era Leftist Fiction (Routledge Press, 2005), and has also published short pieces on millennium and apocalypse in American literature, terrorism and literature, and Homeric epic. He is currently researching various forms of determinism in American literature, and is particularly interested in the way that evolutionary theory has influenced American literary naturalism.
