Welcome
John Richard Tangney
Assistant Professor
John Tangney is an assistant professor in the Division of English. He completed his PhD at Duke University in April 2009 and joined NTU in July 2009, where he teaches Shakespeare and renaissance literature. He is broadly interested in the ways in which modern secular forms of thought are indebted to pre-modern religion and philosophy. His current research looks at the fate of the Aristotelian metaphysics of 'substance and accident' in some poetic and dramatic texts from the turn of the seventeenth century, as a way of thinking about the emergence of early modern atheism.
